I am not even a huge Stones fan, but one of my favorite bands, the Brian Jonestown Massacre wouldn’t exist the way that it does without their influences, their name after all is a reference to their late guitarist Brian Jones.

So, my wife started playing Dancing Queen for our daughter, my silent generation grandfather used to listen to ABBA a lot and honestly they were very good song writers. Lay All Your Love On Me reminds me of Christmas at a Ski Lodge for some reason. They were very solid songwriters. I also might be biased due to being of partial Swedish ancestry, I mean the Swedes have ABBA and Marduk. Death March by Marduk for some reason makes me very happy whenever I hear it.

I feel like Lemmy & I would have had a lot to talk about, ie the kind of things we are interested in. Lemmy probably liked ABBA in part because Anni-Frid’s father was in the Wehrmacht.

I didn’t “get” mick jagger til I saw them live, then I realized he’s putting on a show to be a front man, not a lead singer. And in doing so, he’s the world’s greatest front man, so who cares about the singing. Then it all clicked. They’re my favorite band now. Just saying “exile on Main Street” makes the hairs on my arms stand up. The first 5 seconds, hearing Keith’s fingers slide on the frets for rocks off, knowing where that album was made, and the story behind it.
They’re so good that I’m not even sure they made their songs. I could see an entire team of song writers and composers creating “the Rolling Stones.” But I don’t care.

Wrong. Malcolm, Angus, and their older brother George were three of the sharpest minds and shrewdest businessmen in the music industry. Nothing got passed them. They just played up their persona as musicians on camera.
