Remember how liberals used to praise the Dalai Lama as a great leader, and a lot of them were getting into Tibetan Buddhism? I remember Tom Hank's voice quavering with religious emotion as he introduced the Dalai Lama at some speaking function, the great religious leader.

Then he said "btw, Europe belongs to white people, just as Tibet belongs to the Tibetan people", and immediately he was memoryholed. He's never been mentioned since, the plight of Tibetan refugees has never been mentioned since. Everyone conveniently stopped their obsession with Tibetan Buddhism.

For a few reasons. One, it makes more sense. Two, there's actual methods designed to expand your consciousness that work. Its barely more than a gimmick now and has next to no involvement in the daily lives of its members beyond praying occasionally. These religions are intense and you can actually experience them, they're far superior to you.
