>>508100453 (OP)In 1948, when Israel declared itself a nation, President Truman was being advised by all of his advisors (George Marshall, George Kennan, Averell Harriman, Dean Acheson, Bob Lovett, James Forrestal, and Chip Bohlen) not to recognize Israel's statehood because it would interrupt oil supplies from the region and draw the US into war.
Truman, however, was up for reelection and was down in the polls, so he needed all the help he could get. Jewish groups were pressuring him to recognize Israel, and Truman, needing their money, gave in and did so.
Israel has been buying American governments ever since.
