NATO primarily exists for European members benefit and so that the USA can hopefully keep them out of WW3 or some Russian land grab scenario. There is still a very real chance of a Russian resurgence, a USSR reboot, a military alliance, and that means Russian border countries have a lot more to worry about than the older members do.
