We northerners are superior because we have low time preference. This is because in our history those that were too stupid or impatient to plan for the winters by stockpiling food and by creating warm dwellings and warm clothes at great effort simply froze and starved to death. Mere survival was a struggle for everyone, year after year.
Southerners had no such evolutionary pressures. Their pressures were disease and starvation from bad harvests and droughts. Thus they don't associate bad results with a bad work ethic but with bad luck for droughts and swarming locusts seem random while the winter is something that always comes and goes, always on schedule.
