>>508139331 (OP)Saudi oil is finite, as in they're running out of it regardless of whether Iran starts selling it or not. Some metrics say fifty something years left at current levels of production.
So oil isn't really a factor.
Religion and that Iran poses an existential threat is the main issue.
Iran represents Shia Islam, an arguably more conservative and less extremist form of Islam, whereas Saudi Arabia represents Sunni Islam, more radical and extremist form of Islam. But they're diametrically opposed to each other. Think of them like catholic and protestant split that resulted in centuries of war and death in Ireland, UK, and continental Europe.
Since Saudi Arabia controls Mecca and Medina that is worshipped by both forms of Islam, even Iranian Shia muslims are encouraged to undergo Hajj (islamic pilgrimage).
The Iranian IRGC funds radical militant Islamic groups to undermine Saudi Arabia's dominance. Groups like the:
- Hezbollah (Lebanese, Shia muslims)
- Hamas (Palestinian, Sunni muslims)
- Houthis (Yemeni, Shia muslims)
Together with other groups they make up the axis of resistance.
Iran can also easily destroy Saudi Arabia by destroying their oil refineries and desalination plants so they pose an immediate existential threat.
