Why isn't Austin trendy anymore? After years of rapid growth, rental and home prices have suddenly taken a dive this year, and Austin-area properties are sitting on the market for much longer than before.

Houston and Dallas are like 10x bigger than Austin. The city is in a large empty plains area in South Texas. When building houses, they just went and sprawled it, there’s lots of really cheap land surrounding Austin. The result was that interest areas, like University of Texas exploded in value, but the housing market in suburban areas floored in price like rural Nebraska.

Also, Austin is not Los Angeles even though Elon Musk cosplays it as such. Moving to Austin is in itself a degrading decision, admitting that you couldn’t make it in Los Angeles. Is it really so degrading to move 10 minutes from the city center so you can really take advantage of being in rural Texas? You’re already over 1300 miles from where you wanted to live.

>admitting that you couldn’t make it in Los Angeles
It's 2025, LA is not as desirable of a place as it used to be. For one it's full of foreigners and Hollywood isn't a big deal anymore. Austin has worse weather, but the nature is arguably better because while there's less spots, the flora is much more interesting. They're completely different cities really, it's a dumb comparison

what was that mall they had to close down in the late 2000s, because it was overrun with niggers?
and like, when there was some yearly state event that brought a whole bunch of blacks into town, they would literally close the mall for the duration of the event just because they were doing so much damage
I went there some time in the year before it closed, not knowing any of its history or demographics, and I was immediately appalled at how sketchy all the patrons were. (this was a few years before I started to get redpilled)

It's exaggerated but some tech companies relocated to Texas from California specifically because of the real estate market. The taxes in the two states are wildly different, which makes Texas competitive.

I think Austin really is as presented in real estate. There's areas in Austin that are very expensive, but the areas that are not expensive are not that far away from the expensive places. Los Angeles is different, and other HOL areas in that you can't even drive an hour to comparable prices that Austin residents can get by being on the edge.

Texas is not California or Florida either, I don't associate it with beaches and tropical weather in the same way, but I do associate it with hot weather.

>When building houses, they just went and sprawled it,
This is the reason. People like being in places worth being in, and sprawl ain't it. When there's a sudden bumrush somewhere, it seems like the developers all think it's magic dirt, like people are going for the smell or something. Property prices spike in cool places. Suburbs and sprawl are nowhere, no matter where they are.

and I think you'll continue to see companies move to Texas or at least have an office there. The main issue I've heard is that you can't recreate Silicon Valley, which makes sense. I think the main appeals of Austin are city life with close nature, blue city in a red state, tons of live music, and houses that aren't retardly expensive. California has beaches, lots of nature, great weather, tech, a lot of variety for events / entertainment but there's just so many downsides to the state that I couldn't see myself living there for more than a short period unless I was loaded

What makes a place cool and what kind of things ruin it, in your opinion? I always thought it was driven primarily by industry and that lots of trendy neighborhoods lose their attractiveness when immigrants and transplants move in, which disrupts the existing community. These areas don’t usually actually become much cheaper unless crime rates rise, though.

It’s the opposite. Liberals everywhere choose to live in more racially homogenous areas because that’s where the impact of their policies haven’t landed yet (alternative explanation being economic activity spurs migration leading to ethnic diversity and it’s the people with some money who choose to leave; but the stories I hear are usually about getting priced out of California due to being poor, not retiring to Texas due to being rich; I’m not really sure which is reflective of reality).

Just left Austin. Boring place, cali transplants, illegals, masonic police. Corporations own the entire city pretty much. Somehow ends up being worse than Houston insofar as the city council being completely paid and owned by corporations, but in complete denial to cater to the old hippy trippy crowd...typical NIMBY type shit. At least Houston doesn't pretend to be something its not. Also the cities immediately surrounding Austin all hate Austin, lol.

they come from countries with 80-90 average iq and the ones that are coming over illegally are likely average at best. they're okay people, but increasing the amount of sub 100 iq people is naturally going to lead to worse conditions. I would argue that 100 iq shouldn't even be the standard because that's still pretty dumb for how complex the world is today

people fantasize about moving somewhere then they use the internet to do the thinking for them. it is sort of the inbetween between googling shit and having AI answers. gen zers all do it and it is retarded.
this is the same shit they do with guns, religion, anything. why do your own thinking when you have keyboard warriors to think for you.
that's how it starts anyways it quickly devolves into getting addicted to the attention.

America is just moving around white people. There is no actual white population growth anymore. So when the white population in one area grows, it's just because the white population in another area is decreasing. This is the big issue that America is running into. It's productive population isn't actually growing.

My contention is that they get priced out of California (i.e. they are poor), but I think the conventional thinking is that they bring money and cause housing prices to rise significantly more than other immigrants with lower income levels. This is same thing that blacks complain about when whites move into their neighborhood. I don’t know which is true, but I suspect it’s that most of them are actually poor by Californian standards.
