It is right to want to preserve your bodily integrity and soul, if only to set an example that others may preserve their own bodies and souls as well. We have a potential much greater than the simplistic ambitions of token tyrants would shape us into cattle.
I believe the escalation in potential for oppression in this age is not due to the new types of weaponized tech, but instead in the danger of increased ability to obscure and manipulate. The percentage of monstrous people has not changed so much, but they can now create illusions of numbers and consensus. They can create fictions that will cause people to maintain the things they fear and hate, and turn on each other, even engaging in spiritually cannibalistic behavior against their own children.
The most dominating forces will still collapse as easily as anything else after the lives of the mortals that created them ended. However, this cycle is broken when these normal people are confronted with the truth of what they maintain. Other humans are the key to retaining humanity.
