Elon Musk's neurolink is just a decoy to keep us from realizing we're already in that sack with self replicating nano technology and the procedure was not invasive, we have been drinking, eating and inhaling nano particles for a long time now, they were just waiting for the artificial intelligence that can simulate brains and read data collected from the combined brain activity of society.

That's the case with most and as time progresses we're gonna feel the sting of that technology. If the system finds it hard to manipulate someone it just tortures him until he cries out for help and is drugged as a result which makes it easier for the system to manage. As a whole society, it can make subtle actions in each individual that push the masses as a whole in a certain direction. At some point in the near future it will gain full control and society will turn into a hive while our individual selves are gonna be caught in a party dream.
