The different is very simple, if I was genius, I would be doing something that makes more money and/or something that would benefit society, not move pieces on a board.

True if we're talking about unequally ranked opponents. If you're playing a similar ranked one, the skills are what make a difference.
But that's kind of what drove Fisher away from chess.

Chess has minimal application to real life after a certain point. I think if youโ€™re in the top 20% of players then you have virtually maximized the benefits associated with operating in the world. Being able to focus on something and solve problems/recognize patterns is an amazing trait and chess exercises that cognitive muscle. Anything above that and itโ€™s really just mental masturbation and much of what you learn is virtually worthless outside of chess.

It's just tic-tac-toe, but bigger. If the tournament gave them generous timers, 9 out of 10 matches would end in a draw. The only way to force the chess pros to make mistakes is to artificially pressure them with strict timers.

"Isn't it better to be somewhat good at literally anything useful instead?"
Sure. They've never said otherwise. Carlsen has never claimed he's more important for the world than a skilled mechanic or electrician or anything like that. He became good at chess when he was a small child. He became so good that he could make enough money doing just that: playing an enjoyable game. That's the end of the story. There's no big mystery you're uncovering here.

If the enormous amount of time spent on playing Chess since a very young age was spent on studying mathematics, or trying to excel in business, or X their lives would be much more rewarding (I can't convince you, you won't believe me), and at the same time they would be able to help a shit ton of people, and they would still have decades to play Chess just so not so uber super duper well. This
Knowing how to play chess, learning a couple openings and some end game theory is fine. But being a GM takes over a decade for most people. That time could be used in other ways bettering yourself.

Kek aha
Its called stockfish and some other ai's out there
People need to make the first 3 to 4 moves for the AI's in order for them not to draw every single fucking time
That means there's a pattern you can memorize that will draw every single time and nothing better exists
Mind you we are talling about 4000 ELO ai's

yes and no, there are games that are more complex than chess but you can't become a millionaire being the number 1 ranked player on earth: There is "randomness" in that, because it depends on the popularity and marketability: Onlyfans monetizes beauty and eroticism: Highly marketable, that's why there is money there, but also a extreme hierarchy and "unfairness", something like 90% of onlyfans content makes less than 150 dollars per month or something.

If you are the brightest mind in pure mathematics, the top 10 most intelligent and hard-working people on earth. Someone like Andrew Wiles, they didn't become rich from it, which is sad in a way because the system in that way "is fucked"

Ok ok you're right doesn't fit the criteria
But you get what i'm saying
At the highest of levels there are move patterns that draw every single time without exception
Watch stockfish vs google ai matches
The ai programmers NEED to make the first 3 to 5 moves for both sides in order for humans to see the variety
In other words if the AI's play the game they always draw MEANING there is a set pattern that exists that topples any other strategy or tactic out there
So i mean....i guess its not solved but it always has the same outcome
If it always has the same outcome....what's the scientific method?

>all they have to do is memorize what the engine tells them
It's the issue with chess, the game is too basic. Execution skill is non-existent, luck is non-existent. All you have is whether your move is better than that of your opponent, and engines can tell the better move 100% of the time, no exception. Go on Chess.com, play a few games and then have the AI review, the AI can literally calculate a forced mate in 16 in 1 second. It's ridiculous how strong the AI is. "But some very high players would also see that in the right conditions!" Sure you can have memory-freaks who wasted their lives on that, but it still doesn't come to an AI. No single human can memorize every single word of the French dictionary in order and recite them, an AI easily can. Chess has no human component, only memorization at which AI is absolute king. You can't throw off an AI with a weird tactic, you can't get lucky at the AI not having studied an opening, you can't get lucky at the AI having a break-up with his wife and having his judgment clouded.

4000 or whatever the fuck
Over that they draw and i was in error of the ELO rating
Either way its way past human capability
You'll see don't worry
Lets call this debate a stalemate when the new and improved duck AI with a rating of 10000 comes out and we pit it against a 5000 or 6000 or whatever
Then we get to see what the limit of the pattern of optimal moves it really is
Just like everything else in this world
There's always an optimal solution for everything

You have to be autistic if you don't see the obvious answer. A language is meant to be spoken with other people or to study what others have said and learn from their culture, it is incredibly human and complex, and no AI can truly understand the soul that makes a language, the context, when should you say something, how to push and respect boundaries at the same time, how to make jokes... Sure an AI can kind of correctly translate a French text I'd give you into German, but it fails at everything else I cited.

Paintings and music, art, is something that requires a human element by definition. An AI can make something objectively pretty, but not create true art, it can't invent, imagine, conceptualize, innovate. You can spam thousands of blonde blue-eyed big-titties waifus, that still won't evoke feelings, it won't tell a story, it won't reflect anyone's personality or ideas. It's bland by nature, the only value you can find in it is by heavily projecting.

There is something deeply human in playing a competitive game 1v1 as well. A machine can play 10^12 games of chess against itself but it's not the same.

There is no human component in chess, that's the issue. A chess tournament is you going to the board, and then not saying a word throughout the game just looking out for the best possible move with literally no skill whatsoever in execution nor element of randomness.

Most skills have a human component to them that matters, chess doesn't. And this complete lack of human component means that all pros do is memorize engine moves, that's it. There is a reason so many geniuses, particularly Fischer and Carlsen, admitted the game was solved and sucked, and both came to the conclusion that FischerChess is the best current solution since it at least throws all AIs off and restore a bit of human instinct into the game.

Take a game like League of Legends, sure you can get some script to farm perfectly, but when to rotate, how to influence your enemy through trickery, how to handle vision/evaluating the risk of stepping on a ward, when to group, when to split from your team, is it worth to expand your limited pool of mana right now or should you conserve it... There is an infinity of possibilities that are deeply influenced by human psyche and intuition, something that doesn't exist in chess.

It could be a chess king, now that's way to bloody complicated, well you look at it,and it's like the typification of a fatherly figure that exists at the top of all possible dominance hierarchies.
The typified aspect of kingship as such is inexorably tied up with the word!!!
You don't loose you king! You can't loose your king in this battle of wits !!! Even when you lose the KING is still palpable in your hand as it shakes from the excruciating feeling of loss, as if you lost your father FIGURE!

That's not what I said. The human element only influences how humans can fail at the memorization task, it doesn't exist within the game. Chess doesn't care about any human element, unlike art or many other games. There is no fundamental intuition in chess, no micro-decisions, no subtleties. It's one move after the other, you need to make the best move, the end. The AI can safely ignore all human elements because they aren't inherent to the game.

They lack the human element in order to become better they have to
You're pretty much saying that they lack imagination, heart, poise, stoicism ,emotions in general
No personality , the game doesn't offer these qualities
An engine that lacks all these emotions does it better

High level chess players aren't necessarily geniuses but you definetly need to be high level IQ to become very good at it since it requires a lot of character traits like long study and the ability to plan ahead numerous moves. You'll never meet a stupid person who is good at chess.
