>Traditional stone architecture, except not, it's just bricks and precast concrete in the shape of traditional stone architecture
>No gargoyles or carvings or any embellishment because that's tricky to do in precast concrete
>Tiny little steeple because churches have steeples but proper steeples are hard
Old churches have steeples because they were built in a time when you needed a tall steeple with a bell in it to communicate with the village. The American architect just goes straight to "steeples are a thing churches have" and so puts one on regardless of it abjectly failing to be a steeple, and steeples not having been necessary for like a century.

Florenze cathedral. There is a crazy amount of nice churches in France and Italy. I vacationed down there every summer as a child and you find amazing churches everywhere scattered around the country, not all the size of the Florenze cathedral, but still in less densely populated areas they are there. It costs money to keep them in good condition though and unfortunately I think a lot of them are being neglected these days, with the "new french" not really appreciating them as much.

Hideous. The monstrosity they built off 66 near Front Royal isn't much better. They can make them as big elaborate and gaudy as they like but they'll never be anywhere near as pretty as the little old chapels made using local stone that are dotted around that region. Seneca red really is gorgeous stuff. It's just as much the material and how something is built as it is the architecture and design that make a building beautiful. This crap just looks plastic and sterile. Soulless. It could be worse though, it could be the mormon temple in DC.

Than it fails at its primary purpose and is as worthless as any prefab whorehouse. Churches don't exist to look traditional or beautiful, they exist to glorify God. There is beauty in simplicity. Remember, the church is not a building. It is not a political organization. It is not a papacy, nation, or ethnicity. The church is its people, the communion of all believers. Our places of worship should glorify God but the physical place of the church is always secondary to the one true holy universal apostolic catholic church that resides and worships within the building.

Way to miss the point.
Building a church or cathedral was a practics in spiritual transcendence. Look at the details here: >>508242146
Thats the result of craftsmen mainfesting their worship of God by chiseling away for years and decades at the smallest details, blessing the building with a small part of their actual soul. And you feel that in the old Cathedrals. Building those was an act of worship in itself, regardless of the material costs.
As a matter of fact the material is generally just locally sourced stone and wood, not bad quality but nothing special. The magic is in the architecture and craftsmanship, the art of it all and the thought that went into it.

What a distinctly Protestant mindset. Traditionally, Roman Catholics view that only certain vocations (monks, nuns, etc) elicit getting closer to God. It has always been the Protestant position that laymen glorify God through their crafts, hence the "Protestant Work Ethic" as it's known.

In any case, the decision to produce more simple churches is an intentional aspect of Protestantism. It reinforces the correct doctrine of the invisible church, or in other words, the idea that the one true holy universal apostolic catholic church is in fact the congregation of all saints/believers. The building itself, while built to glorify God, is ultimately just that: a building. What really matters is the congregation.

>It has always been the Protestant position that laymen glorify God through their crafts

That is not true. Acts of worship can take many different forms even according to Catholics, and all will bring you closer to God.
Wha the Protestants meant was the mundane, every day cwork that craftsmen did, and that indeed does not qualify as worship.

it all comes back to an intentional mistranslation by Luther, who translated "to win ones bread" as "to find a vocation" ("beruf, Berufung in German).
This all lead to the abhorrend materialistic "portestant work ethic", the downright satanic idea that making another man rich is a path to salvation, which has been such a great tool against us in the hands of the jew.

Which is why it doesn't happen any more. There are no more communities. Most people today don't know their neighbors. Many don't know their own father. The only example I can think of (without thinking too hard) of a wonder in the sense you described that is being worked on today is the segrada familia.
