Jesus warned the people that the Pharisees may have worldly authority, but their works are evil and they have zero spiritual authority or credibility.
Jesus constantly warned people to learn how to separate the physical from the spiritual. This is highlighted especially when the Pharisees claim to be God's chosen people because they are descendants of Abraham, but Jesus rebukes them as children of Satan because their spirits are corrupt.
