You are aware that Rome relied heavily on Germanic arms for their Empire, right? That they saw them as bigger and stronger than themselves, especially as 'Rome' turned brown? They even adopted Germanic warrior fashion at the back end of the empire such that when Anglo-Saxons invaded Britannia they would have been clad in almost identical gear to the Roman legions.
Your fantasy of being med-adjacent is absurd regardless, as not only did those Germanics take over the Empire eventually but that spurred Italians to come out of their countryside retreats and take back their cities including Rome. Italy is Italian in large part thanks to Germanics.
