Both Russia and China would be willing to "ally" with the US temporarily to harm the third.
Russia isn't defending Iran from the US because Russia knows that both the US and China would be harmed by the war far more than they would be.
Similarly, they'd be willing to "ally" with each other to take down the US.

Any perceived alliance is only temporary and motivated purely by self-interest.
