Israel's stated justification for the conflict has been the nuclear sites, and now that they are gone they have no reason to continue. Netanyahu has been hanging on by a thread in his government and needed a distraction days after a no confidence vote so he starts these claims of nuclear weapons. The Trump admin has been trying to make a deal with the Iranians for a while now and Israel completely ruined it by trying to pull America into a war. Trump even said no to killing the ayatollah which is falls in line with the actual goal of Israel and that's regime change. By doing this strike Trump has basically taken away their stated justification in an attempt to cool down the situation. Trump admin even told the Iranians what was going to happen on Saturday and that there are no plans to escalate or regime change. Unironicaly trusting the plan on this one that Iran gets the message and doesn't retaliate and the conflict cools off. This is in line with the Trump adminis position on Israel where they would rather side step them and do their own thing instead of following Netanyahu. It is risky but I can see the logic with "peace through strength" strategy by Trump.
