It won't end at bombing. Iran will retaliate. Which will require destroying its ability to fight.

What do we do then? Do we leave the regime intact, angry, and in a place where it can rebuild? Or do we wipe the regime out?

If we wipe the regime out, do we allow a power vacuum to occur, where someone even worse can take power? Or do we occupy to ensure a friendly government?

And if we occupy, who pays for that? The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were easy. It was the occupations that drained us. Occupation is the hard part.

Americans hate paying taxes. They hate it because they get nothing from it. In other countries, people pay taxes and get an assortment of services in return for what they pay. Here, our taxes go towards paying our debts, debts that were borrowed to pay the military-industrial complex that services our war machine. The money goes into the pockets of some of the wealthiest people on this earth.

Meanwhile, the debt goes high, more money has to be borrowed, and inflation skyrockets. The average man pays more for what he could easily afford a few years prior. And it's the average person who gets squeezed the hardest, making do with less, resentful at the taxes (which he is taught go to lower class leaches, never mind that a simple look at government expenditures would dispel that illusion).

quality of state's management could be measured in how many crisises it can manage at a time. Imagine some turn based game where you have action points. Every action to counter some crisis or pursue goals requires some AP, the more sophisticated the more AP it requires. USA went from having 100AP in 80s to 10AP. It's not like the problems are for much worse, it's that people dealing with them are.
