Ground troops are the only way you can ultimately take over the country and it's not a given. For comparison, more bombs were dropped in Vietnam than in WWII combined and yet US still lost to Vietnam, and that was with a ground invasion.

I don't know how true what John Mearsheimer says is, but according to him and most geopolitical analysts these bombings and even invasion will only accelerate Iran's acquisition of nukes. If the US and Israel push too hard, actors like NK, Russia, or even China might be forced to give Iran nukes outright, the latter having to pull out of nonproliferation in order to do so. This is a scenario where Iran is actually in danger of being overthrown and threatening the resource ownership of the region.
