while this may be true, the foremost purpose of the technological development of standardized ethical doctrine is simply to ensure the stability of society. Humans are animals, and their instincts are still mostly intact. On the fringes of morality defined by law (originating from the standardization of ethics aka religion) we can see natural human behavior exhibited plainly.

Without religions or ideologies, human society would simply devolve back into the hunter gatherers we once were. We obviously don't do that, out of a sense of self preservation. Any simpleton can see that suppressing an instinctive urge every now and then is worth having cheap and available resources from their peers for both them and their loved ones.

Basically, it's called the social contract, and we live in a society.

I would go so far as to say that this selective breeding that we're referring to here is actually an unintended, useful, but unintended side effect of this social contract. Obviously, people understood that quickly and started trying to manipulate ethical doctrine to that end, but the core function is still that of social stability.

This, as you said, has allowed people to fall within their ideological comfort zones, for better or worse. There are those that practice a religion of science, sex, spirituality, etc. with countless layers of overlap, overarching values, etc.

I think the main point I'm trying to communicate here, though, is that this is not some intentional fabrication by any one group or individual, rather, it is an organic development driven by a combination of self-preservation and our ability for abstraction of thought.

Certainly, interests have worked to make countless influences of these developments for more intentionally fabricated schemes, but the overwhelming mass of the subject is propelled entirely organically. At least, in my opinion.

Basically, you could compare it to the natural development of language over time. It develops nuance and more concrete symbols in order to be more efficient in addressing the virtually infinite degree of variability encountered by individuals throughout life. The difference being, of course, that ethical doctrine is highly abstract and more complex than language.

I believe that any degree of conscious influence on the natural process of ethical development will either be rejected or accepted based entirely on whether or not the natural process would have, if given sufficient time, arrived at the same conclusion. This may happen over the course of decades, centuries, or millennia, but it will inevitably happen. This take is probably severely flawed but idk, I tend to default to not caring. Shit will sort itself out.
