I have a car dealership, so I interact with all walks of life on a daily basis. Firefighters are generally extremely respectable and based, and always have hot wives that are absolutely in love with their husbands. It is a culture of accountability and quite militaristic, if you can't pull your weight and be dependable you won't make. Amazingly, men like this are great spouses. I respect them.

Depending on where you become one, your equipment will fill your blood with more forever chemicals than just about any other profession.

they're a tight knit clique not unlike nursing, with some crossover since EMT usually mixes with firefighting. In both cases they can be cool at times, or at times cunty and arrogant. Mostly they are obnoxious and deal with fire alarms and fire safety and other bullshit i.e. bunch of bureaucrats getting up in your shit
far is if you want to do it, I wouldn't character main as a firefighter, if you want to join the clique, just be rural (what you should be doing in the first place) and then you can side gig as a volunteer firefighter, a concept developed by benjamin franklin himself

idk what it's like in Ireland, but in the US its very difficult to become a professional firefighter, since they're very well paid civil service jobs. You basically have to be a paramedic first.
