i wonder when they'll start to feel that appealing to public validation is not required anymore and will start dropping the "violated [international/local/UN/etc] treaties" realizing that they already made a mockery of them in both directions so it doesn't really matter anymore
like everyone that has a comment now, like Vance or the German chancellor is some unapologetic angst-ridden argument for some sort of "universal protectionism" that would only really apply to them or the very rich
remember in the 90s how if a conflict broke out all the politicians would be reserved and diplomatic like "we hope you minimize civilian casualties", "we hope for a fast resolution", "we want to make sure that this will not impact the environment", "we ask the response to be proportionate", "do not hurt the wildlife", etc, very far times behind indeed
