im from post soviet couintry - my mom was always warned me not to touch staircase railings (holding bars) that are rubberized or to sit in public transport, because drugtards snucked needles into them and so when you slided your hand over handrailing or put your ass on seat you would puncture yourself and get a dose of drugs (think heroin) or an infection. i think there were real cases like these in st. petersburg in 90s. since then i walk stairs without touching that shit and rarely ever sit in buses
