The oil in the middle east is the light crude that's most easiest to refine and most sought after oil, there is also endless natural gas there (Qatar) and all the shipping has to go through there or around it so even if you dumped oil you'd still need the shipping routes.

In my opinion everything is going to end now that Trump blew out Iran's nuclear capabilities. Saudis are no doubt rejoicing at this and will sign some kind of permanent agreement with Isreal then effectively all this bullshit is over.
