Leo XIV expressed his private opinion. That's all. Catholics are bound to respect it, but have no obligation to agree with it.

I absolutely agree with it. So would our lord Jesus Christ.

Maybe you agree with him, but Catholics are not obligated to agree with him about this issue.

Anybody else really warming up to Leo? He seems like a pretty based Pope so far. He's appointed a bishop here and there I don't necessarily like, but some of that is leftovers from Francis. In general I like how much he loves Latin, and he seems to be encyclopedic in his knowledge of the Church Fathers. And other great writers, too. He quoted Cicero the other day.

Admittedly yes. I would've preferred Ripperger or Burke, but our Lord dictates it will be done.

He's politically pretty leftist (although not to the degree that Francis was and he's certainly more lowkey about it), but liturgically he's definitely trad. Imo he was chosen as the best of both worlds to appease the left and right of the church while being American and Peruvian allows him to combat the most pressing issues facing catholics in LATAM where we're struggling to beat out protestants and in America where he provides a beacon for US catholics to emulate in a critical moment where the USCCB is beginning to lean too much into its disagreements with Rome. Also him saying this at his first ever homily was very fucking based for an American.

You are not obligated to agree with everything The Pope says and nobody is arguing that you are, however, he is the highest Catholic authority, and so his opinion carries weight and should be considered and respected. Catholic e-celebs are of no authority, and their opinion carries no weight, but more Catholics listen to them and remain in a state of comfortable opposition to the church and its values, allowing others to convince them "when its ok to listen to the church". If your trad e-celeb or online community has you raging about everything The Pope says, trying to nitpick everything the church does, or holding your brothers and sisters in Christ in contempt for not agreeing with you, please realize you are being lead astray. You should allow all your opinions to be challenged, it allows you to know you are making logical decisions that align with Catholic teaching, but most are too afraid to step outside the ideological boxes that propaganda artists have built for them. It is a great thing to think for yourself, of course, but it is of more value to understand how difficult it is to do so.
