Hebrew Phrase Surface Sense Hidden Sense
“קַח-נָא אֶת-בִּנְךָ אֶת-יְחִידְךָ אֲשֶׁר אָהַבְתָּ” “Take your son, your only son, whom you love …” (v. 2) Isaac is unique to Abraham. Foreshadows an only Son uniquely loved by God (same wording later reappears).
“אֱלֹהִים יִרְאֶה-לּוֹ הַשֶּׂה” (v. 8) “God will provide for Himself the lamb.” Equally can read “God will provide Himself as the lamb.”
Abraham then names the site: “יהוה יִרְאֶה”—“YHWH-will-provide/appear” (v. 14), adding, “On the mountain of YHWH it shall be provided/seen.”
That sentence hangs unresolved throughout the Tanakh until God resumes the thought centuries later
