>The average price of the staple food at supermarkets has risen almost continuously in recent months, hitting a record 4,285 yen per 5 kg in mid-May, roughly double last year's level, due partly to a poor harvest and delays in releasing stockpiled rice.

Let's all buy some rice and send it to Japan. We can call it: "The /pol/ Board of 4Chan 'Buy Some Rice and Send it to Japan' Event".
Admittedly the name could use a bit of polish.

They killed not only Military guys caught off guard but also Hospital and Civilian workers in Pearl Harbor.
the bombs were destines from Military Industrial Complex in Koby but it was heavily overcast so they picked Hiroshima. this sadly was mostly civilians
however they tried to kill Hiro Hito but failed and again killed even more civilians.

They assessed the value of their feudal domains by how much rice they produced. They even had a unit of measurement that was the amount of rice it took to feed one person for a year. The reason they were so absurdly short up until very modern times is because they ate almost nothing but rice.

>I can make cash
Good luck.
You'd expect the rice crisis being due to bad harverst and sudden increase in demand and while those factors do come in, the primary issue is straight up the bad business envirionment. Being a rice farmer is simply awful.
>too many farm owners competing with tiny ass highly inneficient farms for for razor thin margins
>no goverment help (other than tariffs on Californian rice, that nobody cares because it doesn't taste as good)
>only one major distributor (JA) that has a monopoly on the distribution and larger profit margin
>aging farm worker population as most young people move to the city and the few that remain choose more profitable produce other than rice
The rice crisis is a bomb that has been ticking for decades (pretty much since the economic bubble bursted) and it finally went off.
The goverment is trying to keep things under control by selling old rice reserved for disaster relief but in just 3~4 months of doing so it basically exhausted those reserves.
If the japs think things are bad now, they won't believe what's waiting for them on the next harvest, specially with this hot a shit summer.

Japan is just hard-mode when it comes to geography:
>shitty, mountainous land
>no resources
>lots of earthquakes & volcanoes
The only thing they had going for them was fishing, but the chinks have ruined that. In all honestly they should have given up farming altogether and simply imported their food from America while focusing on something like manufacturing, but because that has obvious national security concerns they are forced to subsidize farmers via tariffs & benefits. But the subsidies will never be enough to make it a worthwhile endeavor for young people, so no one wants to do it.
That said, JAF and the government are greedy retards and I hope the Rice Riots 2.0 results in these globohomo stooges being thrown out and executed for their crimes agains the japanese people.

We produce some rice here. Too much rain and it's fucked. Too little and it's also fucked.
I generally hate rice and I have no fucking clue why my compatriots like rice so much.
I believe some other countries in the region do produce a shit ton of rice, so much so that their exports hurt our local production because they sell too much and thus making the overall price go down.
Here rice farmers are always complaining about the small profit margins and that the mills charge too much or that the gov doesn't pay them in time if they sell their production to the government rice brand that sells subsidized rice to the locals.

Youre late. Prices already coming down. Not a real crisis anyway. Fake crisis created by stupid regulations to protect domestic rice producers. At any moment the government could loosen the bridles a bit and the rice price would crash for poors. (Middle and upper class would still buy more expensive domestic rice regardless). They released some from strategic reserve and its already back down to like 3000 per 5kg. Itll normalize at 2500 within a few months which is fine since were having first inflation in like 20 years.

Real problem is the massive increase in pajeet "srudens" everywhere. Theres a fucking naan and curry shop on every fucking corner with stinky pajeets smiling and bobbin their heads so excited tobe shitting up clean Japan. Every playground is about 5-10% jeet kids now. Its fucking over.

Yeah, they've got a lot of mountains. But they could just throw some goats up there and eat them and their dairy products if Buddhism wasn't gay about animals. They could also have a good, sustainable lumber industry so long as they don't go full retard and clear cut everything.
And lacking extractable resources like metals and fossil fuels is probably a good thing for a country like theirs. That usually just means that richfags (often foreign ones) strip the land of its material wealth, destroy it for any other purpose, and leave the people poorly situated to find another means to get by. Even in the US the people who actually live in coal country got fucked by that. Developing human capital is better long term.

One controversial mesaure the new minister is taking is bypassing the distributors and selling to retail outlets directly.

Argentine beef is eaten by cutting it into large chunks because it's so tender and juicy

Japs should buy from Taiwan. It's friendly, an ex-colony so there is cultural links, Taiwan could never permanently take a chunk of JP market share like the US if let in, and TW is one of the few in Asia that doesn't look at Japan's imperial stint with massive hostility.

Same applies with their migrant situation.

But like >>508427022 said, instead of being rational an importing other East Asians, psuedo-Asians like central asians or hapas, Europeans, or even SEAsians? Japanese decides to import JEETgoblins.
Pretty much the 2nd worst choice after Africans or Black Americans.
In some ways it might be worse depending on how they are selected.
If they are "srudens" who just run curry places then it's better to just import african athletes. At least you can play the eugenics game and end up with strong athletes for olympics or sports like Naomi Osaka or Rui Hachimura.

Sure we grow a lot and the rice is actually GOOD since California is less polluted than the long grain style rice grown in the south near places like the end of the Mississippi where decades to centuries of industrial runoff and chemicals have piled up.

But like I said
>Taiwan could never permanently take a chunk of JP market share like the US if let in
Japanese concern with most US food is like Europe's. US food standards are a bit lower and the US is VERY competitive if not outright subsidized. They look at our agriculture like we look a China's manufacturing.
"Special" interest are against allowing too much US entry to protect local farmers because they fear permanent loss of their market share to US producers.

I saw a bunch of japanese people saying the rice crisis is because foreigners are living in Japan and eating all the rice.
But the posts ITT say otherwhise.

i know a little bit about this:
>japanese people only eat rice made in japan
>refuse to import rice from other countries
>rice harvest in japan was garbage for years
>situation got so worse that japanese government had to open their national rice savings which mostly only happens in natural disaster situations

this has been the case for almost a year now and as i remember it was due to a drought last spring/summer. it isnt a recent phenomenon but the prices of rice are still high for some reason

The shortage is basically over and prices are falling again, it was mostly a case of mismanagement by the government. Why are we discussing an issue that is mostly passed?

We mostly prohibit the import to protect farmers and JA, but JA are not so popular these days. I think most Japanese except some olders don't mind foreign rice if it's the right grain. The importing tax is high.

The foreign and Japanese blend 5kg bags are about 15 dollars and the Japanese bags are $25 in normal supermarket. It was 15 for Japanese one last year.

Yes, but I mean it's such a cheap food anyway, it's like the cost of water doubling from 1c per L to 2c. Budget wise for a Jap wouldn't the rice price only add less than $5-$10 per week?
