The politics of this movie. Spoilers if you haven't seen it. I liked it overall, even the very British ending, but I think it's just as politically charged as Boyle's first installment, 28-Days-Later. Mainly that euthanasia is a compassionate way to end a hopeless life. That was more disturbing than the "zombies" and a subversive message to teach its viewers which everyone is supposed to accept at face value. Boyle himself is an atheist, so he's just doing what they do. Maybe it's a PSA for MAID.

I've been a big fan of zombie movies since I was a kid (I'm nearing 50 so this was before The Walking Dead etc). I only watched 28 Days Later once, because it just wasn't that good of a movie. I did appreciate the fast zombie aspect (though as I recall, the first movie I saw with zombies that weren't shambling and slow was the remake of Dawn of the Dead, and the fast zombie thing was a horrifying new concept to me). But yeah, 28 Days Later was not a movie I ever watched again, whereas all the other classic zombie movies I've watched many many times. I really thought it was very unbelievable that the army would just start raping women that quickly, and was more the thoughts of a depraved and perverted mind than reality. It really bothered me and frankly made me dismiss the entire movie. Like what is wrong with someone who would write that into a movie?? Whatever is wrong, I'm no longer interested in viewing any of their movies.
My favorite zombie movie by the way is Day of the Dead. Really great from beginning to end and such memorable characters. I also think it was pretty realistic.

My main contention with the zombies is that it shouldn't give them superpowers i.e. you go from an old fart into an olympic athlete and vomit enthusiast in just 10 seconds from infection.
Romero did the zombies best, a slow moving undead army of flesh eaters; where the fear was visceral like a volcano spewing magma slowly over the horizon but inescapable, a world wrecked by apocalypse.

It's interesting to see the angle of subversive elements being discussed now, such as it being anti-white. That isn't really obvious to the viewer unless you look deep inside the script and question it. Either way... wasn't going to watch because I knew well enough from the first film; fast zombies = going to be shit. I can still enjoy Day of the Dead or Dawn of the Dead or even Night of the Dead; but I'll be able to rewatch them now and figure out which bits are subversive for myself. I have noticed that there's a racial element to the film years ago, but it really is a soft background running theme. I enjoy the zombies as a type of monster, that much I can appreciate.

'28 Days later' did raise a moral question of war.

The soldiers at the end were overloaded with civilians and zombies and couldn't figure out who was who. They were given the order to shoot at will and kill everyone. They had the moral issue of killing innocent civilians.
