Trump knew from the start that he only has to tell his base that it was a success, and they will accept it. He doesn't actually have to accomplish anything. He only has to succeed for himself.

it feels like Netanyahu is playing trump like a fiddle.

Israel and the US are allies, but before there was always a degree of negotiation.

Now Netanyahu can just put the Us president in a position that they feel obliged to comply with.

Say what you want about obama and even biden, but they at least gave the sense that they would leave israel hanging if israel went too far.
