Most cow breeds nowadays produce the milk whose primary protein (~80%) is Casein A1.
The A1 beta-casein protein, which is linked to the release of the peptide beta-casomorphin-7 (BCM7) during digestion.

So yeah, basically cows have been genetically modified to produce addicting milk that contains actual opioids.

What are the political implications of this?

This is why cheese is so addictive. It's much more concentrated than milk so the amount of casomorphins you subject yourself to is much higher.

Quite possibly. There are also claims that over consumption of cheese can cause autism or activate latent schizophrenia.
Which would make sense considering that psychoactive drugs are known to exacerbate schizo symptoms.

Gr8 thread. The A1 variant of ฮฒ-casein (which is around 30-40% of the 80% total A1 casein protein content in cows milk) is indeed readily broken down to release BCM-7. However the amount of BCM-7 released is so tiny - I would imagine only babies would feel it, soothing them, which makes sense from evolutionary standpoint. Adults with healthy gut barriers should not feel any psychoactive effects from milk. Perhaps you shitting yourself after a glass of warm milk is somewhat related?

It depends alot on the route of administration.
Casomorphine is apparently 10 times stronger than morphine when isolated from the milk and injected.
However, when orally administered its a bit weaker than morphine, i believe thats because of the obvious tolerance that most humans have developed to it over a lifetime of milk consumption.

Yeah its because of tolerance and the gut microbiome being able to break it down because of overexposure to the molecule over the years.
However, if you have ever tried opioids you will know that the effect is very subtle at low doses, just gives you a slight feel good mood that can be confused with satiety after eating a good meal so most people dont really notice the effects and think that they feel good because they just had a good meal.

Around 50 mg per liter of milk.

According to psychonaut.org which is the number one site drug users go to check drug dosages, morphine starts working from as low as 10 mg when taken orally with a heavy dose being 30mg.

https://m.psychonautwiki.org/wiki/Morphine
However, tolerance plays a huge factor, especially with opioids, a morphine addict can easily consume 10x that amount because of tolerance.
And as i said earlier, we have a huge tolerance to milk for obvious reasons so its very hard to punpoint where casomorphine will have a noticeable effect.

If you have ever taken opiates you will know that the effects are not very obvious.
A mild opiate high makes you feel like you would after a good meal or after sex.
It wont feel euphoric or anything in low doses and with a tolerance.
People feel good after eating well anyway, the opiate just adds to that effect and simply makes the meal feel extra nice.
Make yourself something like spรคtzle with extra cheese and another meal with no dairy with the same amount of calories and you kight notice that you feel better after meals that contain alot of cheese.

Most foods and spices are psychoactive. They have subtle and wideranging effects on psychological wellbeing and also a complicated interplay with gut bacteria.

the milk opioid would likely be a very subtle effect. Maybe thats why warm milk helps sleep?

Casein A1 (the one im talking about) is notorious for causing gut issues in alot of people.
Try using goat or sheep milk, it shouldnt cause much less trouble.

5mg of morphine is a nice buzz and very noticeable. If 1l of milk was equivalent to 5mg morphine lots of people would drown themselves in milk. My guess is the molecule is just too large to get into the brain. Obviously this still might affect the body and could ead to constipation or other side effects. Just my guess what's going on assuming the numbers are correct.

Utter bullshit, this is not in milk. If it was thousands of people would be dying of opioid overdose on a daily basis. Based on previous statements in this thread.

As both a medical professional and a enjoyer of cow milk, how could I not have noticed this? I have consumed real opioids, now the effects, have a very low tolerance for opiods as well. On a side note, I don't consume any drugs other than milk, apparently.

As a person who is extremely sensitive to any types of drugs (and hate their effects because of a massive need for control) and very knowledgeable about drug effects I assure you, the amount of milk needed to be consumed to see any effect from this must be in inhuman amounts of milk in one sitting.
