As a result of everything above, the US public came to see the war as a disaster. US leaders weren't trying to win, just trying to save face and bleed China/Russia. They say tens of thousands of Americans dying in a war their leaders weren't even really trying to win, all to prop up a regime that time and again proved itself so incompetent and corrupt it made your head spin. But the US did accomplish some goals in Vietnam. It got Russia and China to spend a lot of money they couldn't afford on a war they, too, had to support. The US did manage to limit communist expansion in Asia in part because of Vietnam. The US showed it would go to the mat for even the worst, most useless and corrupt ally, thus giving credibility to the American alliance. So not a total loss.

Why? US leaders made a lot of mistakes and fought the wrong kind of war. They fundamentally misunderstood the enemy. In the end, while there were silver linings, the US ended up leaving the conflict in disgrace and were embarrassed internationally while domestic politics became toxic. How is any of that a cope?

Sinking Chinese and Soviet ships would only provoke Russians and the Chinese to enter the war actively. They were aiding Vietnam and won but imagine if NV was actually supported by Soviet and Chinese troops

Veitnam was not proactive
it was a cival patrol type engagement with very few offensive maneuvers and a sit and wait castling strategy while they expected the south Vietnamese to do much of the actual engagement
American boots were largely meant as a deterrent to larger involvement by the Chinese and Russia while providing direct support and systems deployment to help the south Vietnamese cary out offensives
The problem was it became protracted and developed into a quagmire with public support being eroded by communist hippie niggers and collage kids that didn’t want to be drafted in the states
It was the commies at home that won the war not the commies hiding in tunnels in Vietnam
In the end an absurd amount of jungle chinks were killed and Americans achieved there objectives anyway because The Vietcong wanted America to come back
