I see these graphs all the time but I think they're all misunderstood.

As the population decreases, you are also selecting for women who want to have children. Those women are having (sons and) daughters who carry the genes that predispose them to want to have children.

I don't think that the population will continue to decline until there are only two couples left, and they each have one child (one boy, one girl) and then those two pair off and have one child and then humanity dies out.

I think it'll decline until we "burn off" the genes that made people susceptible to losing interest in children in a world with modern conveniences. What we'll be left with is a population of people who still want kids ...even though social media, vydia, porn, etc. exists.

Then the population will increase.
