>>508520115 (OP)I work in manufacturing. Manufacturing coming back to america is a pipe dream. We make large parts. It is still very automated. Our company employed over 2000 people, the largest employer in the county and all surrounding counties except the state capital county, and now has 500. After covid, wage prices increased so much that wages are nearing the point that automation of production lines are cheaper than paying 2 people to work the machine on day and night shift. For us, that cut off point is around $110,000 per production line. Once you consider employer healthcare cost, employer taxes and overtime pay, that is 2 people being paid ~49k a year. We have about 110 production lines that can be automated this way.
So that will be 500 employees down to 280, probably 250 or less once you consider support jobs that could be cut as employee number drops. And this is in a manufacturing company where profit margins are about 3%, which is pretty shitty for the industry. Trump wanting to bring back manufacturing will play out the following way. Loans and grants with tax benefits for building manufacturing facilities. Tariffs and global recession to weaken US dollar after allowing loans and grants. Loans not being required to be paid back for 5-10 years to allow for manufacturing to start with an inflated dollar causing debt to be negligible. So you as the average worker will end up being fucked over and the rich will continue to get richer on your tax payer funded loan and grant dime. Thanks for your hard work and contribution to my industry. Lets make america great again and make my next plant free to build just like sports stadiums.
