this. corn subsidies are fucking insane. But the reality is you can avoid it if you are willing to pay more. You do not have to buy coca cola or pepsi shit, there are other options. You do not have to buy that mainstream candy at the grocery store, go to an actual candy store and get you some proper sugar.

Most locations, not all, you are able to source local in state food. People just don't. And bananas don't really grow here. But to remove yourself from the multinational corporations fully it takes a bit, and is completely an economic issue.
Then there is the problem of nutrition and soil depletion going hand in hand with with scale of agriculture.
>Adding more than corn subsidy issues ik.
Permaculture is not a large scale agricultural thing. So like the rest of the world (Haifa etc) most anything grown is through commercial fertilizers.

>Why does everything in the United States contain high fructose corn syrup when the same products in other countries don't?
Once it's in the can/bottle, mixed up and sits for more than a few minutes it's all the same shit. HFCS is 40-60% fructose. Sucrose is 50/50 and breaks down under the acidic mixtures used in most sodas. You can take issue with the corn subsidy shit in the US if you want but don't try to make it a health issue. All types of sugar in excess will fuck your shit up. If you bother to look into the subject you'll quickly find that HFCS is just a weird media scapegoat. All of it is pretty much equally bad for you.

I don't know about all that. Personally I know I can slam can after can of HFCS soda but even the same soda made with cane sugar and I cannot drink much without feeling a bit of a tummy ache. It really does seem like there is some kind of natural response to cane sugar to not overconsume it whereas I can slam a 12 pack of HFCS soda and still not be satisfied and drink more. There is something to it.

HFCS is in everything because fermented corn stalks are excellent and very valuable as livestock feed and this is why so much corn is grown here. Making humans eat the corn sugar instead of throwing it away is just an afterthought. The shit is not even food, it's actually refuse (garbage).

That's the case for pure glucose sweetened products but not cane or beet sugar because cane and beet sugars are both sucrose which breaks down into a 50/50 blend of fructose and glucose. There may be something else going on with the drink's overall formulation that makes you feel satisfied sooner but it's not the blend of sugars. And you're almost never going to find glucose sweetened sodas anywhere because despite it being available in a less processed state as regular corn syrup, that natural satiety reaction combined with the fact that we experience glucose as a far less sweet taste gram for gram, means it's more expensive and would require more complex formulations to get the flavor right while still being a tolerated product.
