Our entire law system is a joke. Legally, if you are a US citizen you are not required to carry papers on you. If you are here illegally then by law you are required to carry documents saying you are who you say you are on you at all times. So if ICE thinks you, a citizen, are here illegally then they can hold you because obviously you are illegal and are breaking the law by not carrying documentation that you are not required to carry on you at all times. Im a normal founding stock white man so I do not have the problem but there are rarely people who fall into the too brown and too out of place category. Then chimping out when any law enforcement appears doesn't help their cases. It has gotten pretty bad over the past half a century when cities, states and federally laws have passed giving law enforcement greater protections and citizens fewer protections. I'd say we have the worst police state in the country other than China, bongistan and australia but I am not that big of an expert on the laws of every country to know for sure.
