Most of the postulations made by pagans are the same statements made by jews to stop people from converting to Christianity

Pagans were monotheistic. Read Aristotle, Plato and Plutarch.

My guesstimate is that Odin is closer to Saturn than Hermes.

Odin would be the parallel of Zeus, both of which are considered to be the supreme God that all lesser gods stem from. The idea that Zeus was born of Chronos or Saturn was actually something that the poets came up with, and theologians were strictly against it because the entire point of a supreme Numen is that it's self-existent and has no prior cause.

That's technically henotheism.
But classical polytheism is not about picking your heckin favourite marvel avenger. Each god rules over or represents an aspect of reality, and you interact with that specific god in conjunction with that aspect of reality.

Not only that, but the gods themselves were seen as creatures rather than creators. The Pagans only recognized one God, and all of the gods underneath that God were simply aspects of the highest Numen. Theology since its inception has always been built on the idea of a supreme power/first cause, and there can only be one supreme power/first cause by definition.

The Egyptians called that supreme God Isis, the Greeks called him Zeus and the Romans called him Jupiter, but they were all referring to the same thing, which is a perfect incorporeal Mind responsible for creating and guiding all of reality.

>Odin would be the parallel of Zeus
I used to think so as well, but Indra has so many aspects in common with both Jupiter/Zeus and Thor.
>something that the poets came up with
The same could have happened among the Germanics.
>theologians were strictly against it because the entire point of a supreme Numen is that it's self-existent and has no prior cause.
Yes, it does muddy the water somewhat.
