I do wonder what menial work would pay if you didn't have immigrants or foreign labours at all. There's no first world country that has properly tried it, even South Korea and Israel get in temp workers.

I think from what we seen in Japan in the 00s, menial workers just instead work at a slower pace and have a more comfortable time on the job.

No, it absolutely did not.
One hour of minimum wage work in 1961 got you $1.15 in federal reserve notes.
It wasn't even legal for US citizens to own gold until 1974, and contracts that specified payment in gold were legally banned until 1977.
Adjusted for inflation, $1.15 in 1961 is the equivalent of $12.36 today.

I always find it hilarious that the push for higher wages is always for the most useless and easily replaceable jobs like cashier because those are the jobs people see in their personal life the most so they stay on their mind.

Meanwhile the actual important jobs and not to mention most difficult like warehouse worker ends up getting shafted usually now making less than the cashier's or at best the same amount of money as a cashier when they used to make more than them. Why the fuck not just be a cashier instead then? Then suddenly the supply chain is destroyed, imagine that.

Absolutely not. Not even in NYC will the average person
The average wage for a city employee is $26/hr.
The average salary total is ~$31/hr, and obviously people with more experience will want a higher salary than entry level.
People have a weird view of NYC jobs as being high paying just because the city is expensive, but it really isn't. Most people just have lower standards of living.
I applied for a job there once because I wanted to be closer to family, I would have actually had to take a pay CUT from living in New Mexico to live in NYC.
NYC has high paying jobs, but most of the jobs are not high paying wall street jobs. Most people there still work 9-5 office jobs or whatever.
This guy would unironically bankrupt the city with a $30 minimum wage.

The average rent in New York is $3,700 a month. At $30/hr, after taxes and rent, you would have about $300 left to pay: gas, electric, transportation, internet, cell phone, groceries (which are hella expensive in NYC). Even with a minimum wage of $100 an hour, you'd still struggle to make ends meet. Jewish dystopia.

Depends really. I work at a small chain movie theater
Over the course of this year total hours worked is around 14000, Average pay is probably around $13.50-14 so around $200k so far this year in pay. So far this year total revenue is around 1.2mil in Concessions + something like 40% of the revenue of 150k tickets (around 600k)
So revenue of 1.8mil, (this isn't counting groups that rent out theaters which is going to add.... A lot to that.... since 100% of that money stays with the company) the owner owns the building outright so just needs to pay property taxes/power/water/restocking/etc. Total restock cost is probably..... 15k per week? So lets say 375k ytd,so 575k + let's say 400k in shit i as a manager don't know about (fuck if i know how much our insurance costs), so 1.8mil revenue against around 1mil in expenses through the first 6 months of this year.
So off our one single location he's made a bit under 1mil in profit.
If he doubles all pay that'd put floor staff starting pay at $23 and Managers at $33 and he'd still be making 600k per year.

The actual solution is simple, but Jews and boomers need rent and property values to spiral to infinity forever so nobody will ever implement it. Flooding the market with huge amounts of public housing and taxing the everloving fuck out of real estate speculators to make residential real estate an unprofitable endeavor.

That’s literally it. Once the environment becomes so unfriendly to house flippers and landlords that there’s no money to be made in endless specoolation, prices stabilize naturally. We should subsidize housing the same way we subsidize basic foodstuffs like grains and dairy, it’s just as basic and essential and kikes shouldn’t be allowed to put their grubby hands in it.

You sound like a retard too. What elevates property values is simply supply and demand like everything else. This is determined by things like zoning, immigration, banks buying houses, etc. Not muh landlords. The government has an interest to pricemax housing because it keeps people working to pay income tax and property tax. How are you going to subsidize housing when everyone needs housing and everyone pays taxes, how does is such a subsidy effective then? I can understand building more as a long term thing to increase supply but that's it.

>Not muh landlords
Anon I need you to understand that landlords are not a friendly old man who invested in an apartment building and lives in the first floor condo of your building and will be dead soon.
Landlords are, specially in NYC, multimillion dollar corporations run by kikes. Literally, and I mean literally, giant greedy kikes that do everything in their power to stranglehold real estate supply to make things more expensive BECAUSE they get millions and millions of dollars through land appreciation. Much like hatred for Israel, the progressives correctly hate landlords for all the wrong reasons

I agree with you, it is just supply and demand. What elevates (residential) property values is the sharp increase in demand due to the financialization of the housing market and the use of homes/apartments as speculative instruments. If this becomes unprofitable due to regulative and tax burdens, then the only demand will come from people who want a place to live. These are the ONLY people who should be allowed to contribute to demand for residential real estate. If you want to use commercial real estate as a speculative instruments, go right ahead

This decreases demand, and turning empty worthless buildings into housing (that is for EVERYONE who can pay and not poorfags who need vouchers) raises supply. There are ways to make this even easier with additional incentives/penalties

Worse yet are these people who want to do something like nationalize housing in response because they can't understand the reason things are the way they are is the government to begin with.

I explained that the additional demand created by profit-motivated speculators creates a perverse incentive. If these actors were barred from the residential real estate market, then people intent on RESIDING in buildings wouldn’t have to compete with entities intent on selling empty buildings to Blackrock. The housing market should be structured to incentivize the of housing people, not the fortification of boomer retirement portfolios.

Read nigga read. Supply and demand isn’t a magical set of parameters handed down from God, it’s influenced by market incentives. Preventing the formation of perverse incentives in the market so that the economy van serve its participants rather than the other way around is the role of good government.

American houshold income is a meme, cool 150K/year but its 100K to give birth, 50K for a medical procedure and 300K to put your kid through college. I'm not necessarily for or against their system, I don't know which system is better. But they damn sure don't just earn many times more than europeans, life is far more expensive there. Australia and Belgium top the charts for median net worth, with much lower household income. Because my kids school bills never exceed €50/month and a doctors visit is €4. I just had surgery on my head twice, remove benign tumors, not a medical necessity. Total cost €0 didn't even get a bill. I talked to some faggot in florida paying $20.000/year in home insurance.

>the sharp increase in demand due to the financialization of the housing market
This is one surely but not all. I agree banks should not be buying houses as an asset class. But Money is made on price fluctuation alone. You can make housing super affordable but as long as there is price fluctuation, people will trade it. The market cap will decrease but it will still be bought and traded like anything else and all the implications to GDP.

Personally I don't care if people trade housing as long as it remains affordable and cheap. But the government has an interest against that because people keep working to pay their housing and they keep paying income and property tax as a result. We can't have everyone subsistence farming, Canada or Mexico will invade, our economy will be Afghan tier. There needs to be a balance. It is possible, we had it in the 90's and before.

Nobody ever claimed landlords collude in some backroom to raise prices and keep them high; they act in their own best interest and respond to the complex dynamics of the market. The question is then, how do you create incentives that lead to rational self interested individuals not raising rent, or at least not too quickly?

Dimwits think the government can just set prices and ignore how human behavior leads to marker dynamics. Midwits understand that market dynamics are an emergent and organic property of human interaction but adopt a defeatist attitude. A few more IQ points and you realize that the dynamical system of the market can be influenced like any other dynamical system through tuning the right parameters.

It’s quite simple; if you don’t plan on living in that residential property, you will pay an absentee landlord tax and have to follow regulations that are so rigid that it’s more attractive to invest your money elsewhere (disincentivize speculators, lower demand)

There will be exceptions/tax breaks if you built the property yourself, and you will be partially reimbursed for regulatory compliance/permit fees if you get residents living in there relatively quickly (incentivizes lower prices by creating a buyers market where the owner wants to close, increases supply)

There are lots of other ways to do this, but so many people screech “commie! commie retard!” if you suggest that the housing market should be restructured to incentivize housing people. I’m not advocating for free housing or anything, just kicking out the parasites who make it impossible for regular people to move out of mom and dad’s place until they’re 35.

Apparently it can get even worse. The Canadian and Dutch housing markets are depressing and hilarious. The dutch housing crisis is often debated here but the context is how do we make sure we don't end up like the dutch. Housing prices are up 97% since 2015 there, it doubled in 10 years. But that is not adjusted for square meters, when factoring in homes got smaller in the last 10 years housing prices there tripled. Millenials in the netherlands who can't buy a home will be the lucky ones, because the ones who can buy will suffer life ruining losses in an inevitable correction. Canadians too. Do not buy at these prices, you're ruining your life so a boomer can retire in monaco.

Or they could avoid the whole shit show of having to comply with all the red tape and invest their money elsewhere, which many will choose to do.

It’s also worth noting that most left leaning cities have strict regulations on rent increases in general, and landlords are only allowed to pass on government fees to their clients in very specific contexts and have to give extensive documentation and written notice to the residents. This was the case when I lived in L.A; we got mail about a tiny $8 rent increase and a huge pile of documents after the landlords petitioned for months to be able to pass on a regulatory fee to tenants. The housing market is not the free market, and desu it shouldn’t be.
