I don't think you realize how small a nuclear explosion is? Also nukes are almost always air bursts so there will no next to nothing sent into the atmosphere, look at pictures of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, no crater

Even the fallout is overblown. Nuclear bomb radiation has a very short half life. In a few months it wouldn't even be harmful anymore.

You don't get it. Nukes are just big bombs, we've dropped more total tonnage of bombs in other wars, we've burned down plenty of cities. There is nothing unique about nuclear weapons except for radiation which is a minor consideration as the decades of nuclear testing illustrates.
