You can't make housing affordable for the median wage earner without screwing people who already own houses. It's a choice, and each option is mutually exclusive. This is the truth that politicians won't face because they know that coming down on either side will immediately destroy their base. So we're stuck here until all of the bailout programa run dry and a liquidity crisis causes property owners to start liquidating.

Houses aren't an investment, they're meant for sleeping, cooking, and raising children. If you own a home with the intention of MAKING money, you are preventing youths from having their own families during their peak fertility years and you should KILL YOURSELF.

Government will be against it because it's not profitable, it's that simple. It's not about fairness or anything else. It's literally just greed of the mortgage companies and politicians they pay off.

Sure, people who already own might be stuck paying the rates they're locked in at, but those people also made the choice and had the capability to buy a house. Imagine if people could just be happy for others being afforded the same opportunity to own a home like we were all pitched in "The American Dream' instead of getting pissy about it and saying some boomer shit

Corruption does not exist in a vacuum. Corruption expands to fill the container of the system it exists in, and thus is shaped by that container.

Remove options, change the system, and the form the corruption takes has to change as well. You can't eliminate it, but you can make it less worse.

The government made it so blacks get housing for basically free.
So if it screws over home owners, i'm fine with it.

I literally own a home and I am okay with this.
I'd be able to buy another home for cheaper and other anons would have homes also.

The housing problem is merely one of financially illiteracy obviously. Houses are cheaper than they were in the 1990s. If you don't own a home by now then you simply do not deserve one due to your piss-poor spending habits and inability to be frugal (if you even know what that word means, rich boy?)
Anything else is 100% cope.

What I'm saying is that the status quo isn't profitable overall, it's only profitable to a few via corruption. And, in some case, they support the status quo despite it being unprofitable for them because it provides cover for their twisted morals regarding labor and basic necessities.

You can't change the status quo by making the ideal profitable. You have to drive out corrupt individuals and force the remainder and replacements to choose to value people who need homes to live in rather than investors (and to actively throw the latter under the bus to make it happen).

I agree but this is how the system is set up and the white race will die out unless we are willing to make rich people suffer a tiny amount and the people on the right will never do that and the people on the left love immigration because they don't care about their country they care about the whole wide world. Canada's only bet is having the Bloc run nationwide and not just Quebec. They are a left-wing party that hates immigration, and their province is way more affordable due to better zoning laws and having fewer immigrants. They need to run nationwide to limit immigration on a national level.

Never said that, you’re lying
>you want to be a serf
Serfs weren’t wage earners so clearly I’m not talking about them lmao, but purely in terms of access to housing they were much better off than modern wagecucks, as they did in fact have a house handed to them and paid a percentage of their harvest to stay there, so if the harvest was a bust they weren’t kicked out for delinquency.
>lots of starter homes in that price range
Lmao median wage is not 80k in the places that have starter homes for 240k or less.
>you didn’t define what you think a modest home is

Just like with healthcare, you need to cut out all the middlemen. This trend of people becoming landlords should end. The government should not pay section 8 to allow random people to profit off of government assistance.

You can't have people buying everything on the market, and then marking up 50%... that is not sustainable.

And a "modest home" is some number of manhours of labor commensurate with what it took to build a modest dwelling historically. I can't tell you what that is exactly because the standard has been warped by externalities like housing codes, underpaid/overpaid labor, the availability of new materials and building techniques and the lack of availability of old ones, etc. Determining that definition is beyond the scope of a post on a barbell polishing enthusiast web forum, but is a reasonable venture for an America that decides that it wants to reform its housing policy.

>You can't make housing affordable for the median wage earner without screwing people who already own houses.
Nigger you're retarded and/or jewish.
Does the resale price of a car going down over time screw over the car owner?
No!
The owner gets to drive the car, has full access to its utility of transporting people and goods, at the cost of ongoing fuel and maintenance. The resale market does not affect this in any way whatsoever.
Consider also the most common purchase made at the time of selling a car: Replacing it with a different one. Thus so long as the car owner swaps his vehicle for another non-new vehicle he equally benefits from the market depreciation of the new vehicle.
Likewise, house prices falling would not negatively impact a homeowner in any way (and indeed BENEFITS the owner in most US counties by reducing property taxes). The house's utility is not impacted, and ongoing maintenance/electicity/gas/water costs are entirely independent from changes to home value.
Even moreso than a car, when someone sells a house, he's probably moving to a different one, and will be able to move into an equivalent home easily.

You're having definitional difficulties. Here, let me help:
>Investment
In the context in this thread an investment is "number generally goes up when you don't do anything"
This definition is very different from your utilitarian description of
>as an asset and/or a place to live

Obviously the house provides incredible utility as a reasonably safe box to keep your stuff and family.
The retarded thing is considering a house to be a "speculative asset" that becomes more valuable without any effort (like remodels, etc.)

But that’s wrong. The US needs housing units. Those units can be condos in high rise buildings, town houses jammed together 3/4+1 apartments over retail. But boomers hate anything other than low density so they don’t permit that stuff in their zoning code.

Without screwing people already with houses
And? I'd love nothing more than to see my property value and tax plummet.

Op is referencing homes as commodity, people who rely on their price to constantly increase so they can flip them for more than they owe on the loans, some people have several mortgages with none of them paid off, renting them out to people and selling them once they have the equivalent of a years labor at McDonald’s in equity

Saying they are for future generations does not agree with OP and it doesn’t change anything about what the other guy said either

*well achtually* shhhhhh

ya but no...affordability is not the issue, the issue is lack of freedom...first of all "private" property is a real big rabbit hole to go down as far as "rights" to land ownership go...it's bazically a "how far back do you want to go "first dibs" "cuz government said so" dynamic....that being said, the real cornerstone of "homelessness" is the "king" telling you, that you can't hunt in his forest....and or there are 'uge tracts of land , millions of acres of it that you can not build on. because the king said so, and if he did say it was ok, there would be all kinds of exclusionary hurdles that would make it so only equal animals that are more equal would be able to build....want to solve homelessness? open up a new homesteading act that allows people to build without regulation or restrictions on open "kings" land

Deportation will drop the cost of rent and rental properties, which will drag down real estate in general.

We don't need to build any new housing.
