Survivors of a mass shooting in Toronto and their relatives can proceed with a class-action lawsuit against the gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson, says Ontario's top court.

Two people were killed and 13 injured when a gunman went on a shooting rampage on Danforth Avenue in July 2018.

Some of the survivors and their families brought a class action against the gunmaker for failing to implement technology that would prevent unauthorized use of the gun.

The plaintiffs welcomed the ruling and said they are seeking justice through safer handguns and corporate accountability.

“Handgun manufacturers like Smith & Wesson have long known their products can be designed to prevent the type of unlawful use that led to the Danforth shooting,” they said in a statement.

Actually they did it to try to make a buck off of the entire thing. That's it. Let's stop pretending there's some high minded thing going on here.

Smart gun technology has been around for a long time. It would have prevented stolen guns from being used, as was the case with the Danforth mass shooting. Yet, manufacturers refuse to implement it because profit is more important than lives.

Why is that their responsibility to do that if it’s not a law I don’t see how they are culpable
You could argue the person they stole the gun from could have done the same and is also culpable or what about the dealer who sold it?
Also suing gun manufacturers will come back to haunt the left in the future
I could see going after big tech social media companies with similar arguments
Which cause a lot more harm to society

Sure just saying the real motivation for this lawsuit is the family trying to make money off of the tragedy

I know this is bait but no one wants smart guns. People either want all the guns or they want all the guns banned. There are very few people in between. They just want smart guns so blacks can still kill each other but they can shut them off when enforcement is dealing with them.

>smart guns
What kind of elaborate fiction is this? I should be allowed to sue the government for not stopping poverty using smart government technology.
