Bluescreen was invented 40 years ago, it came in Windows 1.0. It is very unlikely anyone has ever seen it in Windows 1.0 because it never crashes. But Windows 2.0, 3.0, NT 4.0 and Windows 95 and 98 were crashing all the time with the signature bluescreen.

Lately it has been plagueing Windows 10 which is also keen on crashing. Windows 7 never crashed unless you used a few particular device drivers which work very poorly (this is not Microsofts fault)

Microsoft said they will remove bluescreen starting from next release of Windows 11.

ALTOUGH they will not change the abbreviation BSOD.
Why?
Because henceforth it is known as Black Screen of Death.

He's been making offtopic "news" threads for about 2 years or so. It's obvious the jannies don't care and he's not going to stop. The same goes for the Greek and Belgium flag spamming incel bait threads every day or the plethora of garbage threads created by a handful of mentally ill VPN hoppers.

A BSOD represents unfixable problems (or a turd driver)
A BSOD happens when something is detected as abnormal, indicating something earlier went wrong. The system BSODs to prevent further damage (imagine you have a program that's supposed to delete files, and the instruction telling it what to delete gets fucked with - you don't want to delete the entire disk do you? or similarly imagine a situation where there's an input that's registering some cpu metrics - you don't want to keep running if you don't know how quickly you're melting the cpu)
But yes, additionally if something goes wrong with a ring 0 driver then it's the driver's responsibility to deal with it since the OS/kernel isn't actually available. So if that driver decides to not handle an error well or just does some stupid fucking infinite loop (without requesting its own timed interrupt to salvage the situation) then BSOD can occur (if the system doesn't insta-nuke itself entirely)

The hardest part about fixing when something has gone wrong, is knowing when something has gone wrong. The second hardest part of knowing when something has gone wrong, is knowing what has gone wrong.

Linux has flatpaks and a GUI. Its just as easy to install as Microsoft nowadays. Download ISO onto usb drive and stick it in the slot. Only drawback of Linux is that 90% of your games library becomes useless because most games aren't compatible.

windows didn't crash all the time if you weren't a moron. it was more often caused by shitty drivers or shitty software than windows itself. i had uptimes of over a year with a windows 2000 desktop used for gaming and browsing.

>i don't know what i'm talking about
my steam library is over 500 games. i've played over 50 games in the past year. only one game has failed to run on linux, and that was a russian car driving simulator game. proton and wine run shit just fine. add lutris in and you can play pretty much everything. i've played aaa games like elden ring and ghost of tsushima, and little shit like drova and tons of classic games.

I never get crashes on 10. I use LTSC and don't have a bunch of retarded shit installed though. I also don't play games. If you're playing a game and Windows crashes, 9/10 times it's the game.

No. That's already something else.

The Red Screen of Death (RSOD) is when they activate the remote lock-up switch on your computer for some sort of "security" reason. Specifically when (((they))) need everyone to NOT be able to talk to each other.

Everyone will probably see it 90 minutes before the asteroid hits, so we don't jam the roads so that the chosenites can get to their DUMBs.
