Yeah they did this when I applied for my security clearance I just deleted all my shit. I think they're now demanding applicants HAVE social media, as well, to stop people from pretending not to have it but that could easily be a lawsuit about compelled speech and requiring someone to agree to legal contracts (terms of service) so I don't think they'd actually enforce it, just punish people when they get caught.

It's not about "go to jail for not having social media", it's that if you are trying to get a visa to enter the country you need to be vetted because there is an increasingly high possibility that anyone coming into the country is an outside agent attempting to harm the country or its' people. So if you don't have social media period, then that should be something you can verify, and if you do have one and you lie about it, then you shouldn't be getting into the country.

Also, this is literally for non-immigrant visas, which means not US citizens, but specifically people attempting to enter the country temporarily (and many who do overstay/try and establish residence), and non-citizens who lie or conceal who they are or their affiliations are by definition, criminals who intend to harm the country.
