Why is the US or the west in general trying and failing so hard to resurrect the industrial success of post WW2 America? Everyone had good jobs good families owned a house.

What's missing? What was the secret sauce that we somehow lost and can't replicate?

There were several reasons the system worked then and doesn’t now. In no particular order after 1 and 2:

1.) Desegregation of the Army (Truman)
2.) Deregulation of economy (Regan)

The USA wasn't obliterated by WW2 like Europe was.

The USA provided what is now equivalent to $133 billion in aid to rebuild Europe under the Marshall plan.
