Power-time units are dumb. Theyโ€™re just energy. Power is already energy divided by time, so you take energy and divide by time and then multiply by time and just end up with energy again.

Get window insulation film. For sun facing sections of your house put reflectix on the windows then 1" of rigid insulation foam.

Do some googling and find out how to seal air gaps in your house. Electrical plate foam air gap fixers, exterior foundation sealing with caulk, sealing behind hose bibs and around windows (both inside and outside.) Also shading your house to stop sunlight. Trees are ideal but take time you can get 99% shade cloth and apply it to stop sunlight.

78 or even hotter indoors is fine because you acclimate and can actually bear being outdoors when it's 100.
Just like winter, if you run from your heated box to your heated car to your heated office, of course you're gonna hate winter because you can stand being outside when it feels like it's negative 100.

Summer: 73 day, 65 night

In the spring/fall, if the outside temp is like 65 with high humidity for a day, I'll run the heat for a couple hours, then the AC for a couple hours, just to dehumidify the air in the house.

Dry air feels good at a wide range of temps; humid air doesn't feel good at any temp.

Posted this elsewhere but I donโ€™t think anyone will read it, shit just blew my mind so Iโ€™m reposting it:
So I just did some math and it turns out that if you compare Cape Town SA, Birmingham AL, and Jackson MS on the following metrics
>racial demographics
>violent crime/homicide rate
>quality of life (when you adjust for cost of living)
And theyโ€™re all almost the same, in fact both Birmingham and Jackson have higher rates of crime and Jackson is arguably the worst place of the three to live given intermittently losing access to potable water and other utility failures.
stats are approximately:
Birmingham
>70% nigger
>77-80 per 100k homicide
Jackson
>80% nigger
>77 per 100k homicide
Cape Town
>80% nigger
>70 per 100k homicide
You can take the nigger out of Africa but you canโ€™t take the africa out of the nigger.

Test ran the unit in early May. No fan spinny. Replaced the capacitor... Fan spin... No compressor.

$325 for 3 pounds of R410a. Back in business.

Will probably need to replace it soon, it's 18 years old and slow leaked I guess.

Sucks but I need to stay comfy.

Americans climate controlling the entire house remains a weird concept to me, especially in places where it doesn't actually get cold enough to be in danger of freezing to death. If you live in a place like california why the fuck do you need to micromanage the temperature

Hold on there Kojak.
There are important caveats:
1. Equipment Sized appropriately and Matched (indoor coil / outdoor coil)
2. Appropriate Airflow (duct sizing, returns, etc)
3. Appropriate Heat Rejection (insulation + shaded Condenser, etc)

Since not many HVAC installers (in the US) even bother to perform a single fucking calculation any longer, chances are that the install was borked.

Let's not even get into Flowing Nitrogen while brazing and proper vaccuum to pull the contaminents before charging or releasing the factory charge.

At least half of the fucking Grid Load is due to the above not being performed properly.

Do the soap bubble test at the Valve Cores, (they could be not seated fully or debris enterered if Capless) especially if the last retard that worked on it left the Caps off, making the cores susceptible to dirt, etc.

Also, lather up the Brazed joints on the High and Low side, especially on both sides of the filter drier.

That's the low-hanging fruit that you can do without a Leak Detector.
What Brand is it (if Goodman, then it's probably the Condenser coil itself or Indoor coil and or TXV or Piston)

3 lbs is A LOT of gas, make sure that it's not overcharged.
If TXV system, then ensure the the next tech know to charge by SUBCOOLING (on rating plate)
