Point of college for over 2 decades has been networking. If you are just going through the motions for a piece of paper to put on a resume just get a starter job and lie about your degree. Use starter job to learn and spend a few extra hours a week learning skills related to the job. Stay at the starter job no longer than 2 years, maybe 1 year depending on the field. Monkey bar up by job hopping and lying about credentials. Being honest is what boomers took advantage of to get ahead in life decades ago. They created a low trust society and trying to be honorable will end up getting yourself burned by the classic "we can't pay you the standard rate but we can after 6 months" just to never give you a raise.

>To make bankers as much money as possible.

No rational bank would give an 18 yr old kid a hundred thousand dollar loan without proof of income or a business model. They do it because the loan is guaranteed by the government and can't be dismissed in bankruptcy. Therefore colleges can just keep charging more and more every year.

The goal of employers has always been to hire servile people that have bought into the lies of the system. That college is a waste of time is the point.

If the essay is so simple that can be done by a single prompt of chatgpt then its the teachers being lazy. If the course is complex enough, AI prompts will look like slop and the teacher will just fail you for delivering slop.

I would love teachers turn the tables completly, make courses so hard that you NEED the AI just to understand the material and keep up, AI can make us smarter if its used correctly

I've tried referring people at my company that I knew were intelligent and competent, but all of the interns are related to VPs and Presidents. The analyst we just hired had trouble copying and pasting text but he's friends with the President's son.

Unironically what matters more than college, in terms of connections, is which private high school you attend. College connections are for the proles.

College was already becoming a paper printing machine. I know academics/tutors who are pressured by the institution to 'just pass' most, if not all but the absolute worst, students. The view is - they've paid their fees, just give them their degree as it's too much hassle to fail them.
Now that AI is coming for the knowledge economy, college is going to go back to its original roots - to make a person 'better', but not for a job. Historically, college, or university, was always about improving the student to be a more well-rounded human. For all its faults, the social sciences and humanities IS the true essence and nature of college.

TLDR; higher education was already on the integrity decline, but AI is going to kill it completely. Technical colleges are the way of the next 10-20 years....before robots take those jobs too.

There are 2 big problems. The college system is very very expensive and what they give you will not guarantee a high paying job in your field. Your future income is not guaranteed but your loan can never be forgiven. The other problem is that we live in late stage capitalism during hyperinflation and the death of the dollar and the great depression 2.0 is here and all the businesses closed because of covid except the big corporations who only hire non whites.

It really feels like the system is designed to fuck you to death if you play by the rules. You really have to either get lucky or cheat at life to get ahead. Or be born rich. Hard work gets you nowhere.

AI will mean that human artists will be in more demand - humans will desire human connection to establish a new meaning in a post-labour economics society.
AI will destroy knowledge economy jobs first and foremost.
I feel bad for the guys who slogged it out in accounting, engineering, finance, and, to a lesser extent, medicine (because i think medicine will be one of the last knowledge 'jobs' that society will want to be taken over by AI). People who went to universities to get certified to do a job.... are going to get screwed first.

The artists can help all those who then descend into an abyss of depression. which will be 90% of the world.

Barring people from education while forcing them to step in line with a foolish systems' agenda, or a 'machines' agenda programmed by men behind curtains is only going to end badly.
People require both philosophical guidance and educational guidance in order to not be corrupted by knowledge, but barring it all together as though it were a poison will only lead to a new 'dark age'.
There's no wisdom in binding people to tyranny and ignorance.
There's much wisdom in uplifting them, and guiding them towards sane, rational thinking while giving them the educational tools they need to make their hopes and dreams a reality.

yes and no.
the entire world, bar the west, still orientates around a 'leaders know best' approach. And judging by how things are going - guess which society (east or west) is going to still be around in 500 years time?

The idea that we shouldn't be mushrooms (kept in the dark and fed bullshit) is nice, but its not necessarily a recipe for long term success.
Believe me, i don't want to be a mushroom. But neither does anyone in China. Yet in China, they all understand they need to be mushrooms for 'the greater good'. they do 'their part' by being a birck in a wall. every single brick is needed to make that wall.

Our journey ends with complete introspection. welfare states that can no longer function under their own burden. Countries going into civil war over societal ideals. Ballooning debt repayments because of social programs that are 'morally just'.

I don't like the fact I will be a mushroom in the future. But I can see it's value.

lol. lmao even. College is in a death spiral phase, it's something people go to because that's what the bureaucratic system suggests they do. Bureaucracy has a bad habit of not adapting very quickly. Either those mexicans are getting deported and those college kids start picking berries or they're going to end up begging for UBI. Historically I recall when Jesuits wanted to outcompete traditional seminaries they ran at a loss to kill off the competition with sheer volume, the majority of these institutions ended up as adult nurseries where they would essentially brainwash their students. That's what the DoE did to education in the US since the 1980s, the federal loans basically killed off state efforts to train their own workforces. Turns out feds are still afraid of secession.

Now I can't tell if it's the bug-people genetics causing slavish conformity to any consensus (like being a nigger) and hivemind conditioning no matter how bad and rotten the culture is, paired with their culture of hyper specialization at the detriment of creating blind spots to basic cause and effect; or if he's just a fucking retarded zoom-zoom idiot; but does this guy not know that at any time they can take his diploma away, and that they very well will now that he ("assumedly and allegedly"; as I ain't going to visit twatter or do any digital legwork to figure out if this is just another fake tweet psyop bullshit on a spook run social media and normie paradigm programming website like what's usually posted here in the form of twitter screenshot) very publicly admitting to cheating and not adhering to their rules?
Does he really not know that the entire point of not just "higher education", but the entire societal system is to continue going up a rigged ladder with more and more "privilege and wealth" being bequeathed to you by the (illegitimate) power structures as more forms of leverage are instilled into your life so that you don't rock the boat as they can "take away everything you own in an instant"?

tl:dr Does this stupid and oblivious chinaperson not know that degrees are a form of leverage over the individual by the status quo system, and that they can be taken away and invalidated through bullshit means at any time if you do a big no-no (like what he did, by doing this public stunt in the uni's face at their "ceremony" and going semi-viral)?

And none of this is going into the fact that he now publicly tied his name (that was printed, tied too, and announced at the ceremony) to a degree that he did not do the actual work for; and that no one in the fields that he will want to work in will now trust him enough to hire him, as they don't know how much he really knows and how much might have been just him cheating through the material the entire time.

Both will likely still be around due to human nature. You get what you give. If you want people to be treated like a fungus, then perhaps that is what you yourself deserve. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but sure. Your life and your thoughts are your own to do with as you will.

> What's the point of college nowadays?
To siphon money out of the pockets of midwits in exchange for fake degrees that have no functional value in the real world. The only thing left still barely clinging to relevance are STEM degrees and even that is quickly being eroded by books, Wilipedia, YouTube etc. all of which are of superior quality in a shorter time frame than any lecture you can receive from some pseudointellectual midwit libtard fuckhead professor. I honestly hope academia as an institution can be reclaimed by genuine intellectuals, otherwise it will collapse if it keeps going in its current direction

Actually I'm a libertarian. But I can see with the upcoming catastrophic AI induced, post-labour economic deflation that's inbound, that a UBI is likely to be mandatory/necessary, and that there is really an extreme risk of communism at such point. that or Feudalism. Either way, the future is bleak. Risks are high. and the odds ona favourable outcome in our lifetime are not good.

We'll get our Oliver Cromwell probably in the year 2500 or something. and then life will start getting better again.

But on china, i'm not chinese. But did get back from a trip to the far flung remote parts of china recently. The kind where I got picked up on the street by police for a few friendly questions.

China gets a bad wrap - but their people are decent enough. Just want to go about their day, and expect the government to not interfere with them. They don't love the CCP. They love their families. Much like us in the west.

I know people who went to UCLA and visited once. It's one of the few places you actually get FILTERED out via examinations all the time during your degree (not just during finals). This is very uncommon nowadays for the US.
In normal Ivy leagues you basically can't get kicked out once you make the cut and get in. Getting in is still hard at UCLA , they have no legacy admission and extra curriculars aren't very important. It's pure academic skill (aka chink/rice factory).
However it doesn't rank very high , since the university doesn't game the rankings by simply buying researchers who push out many pubs.
It's probably the hardest university in the US.
You are delusional if you think that chink doesn't deserve to graduate lol
I knew people were gonna chimp once that clip got released on X and with the H1B being controversial in the US.

Also being able to use LLMs in open book exams is a high risk high reward play.

I really hope what you said right there is some boomer logic that will die with the boomers.

The internet is infinitely superior to college. I went to college and it was boring and lame. I've learned a billion times more information from studying online than I learned in college. College cost 36K dollars while my internet only costs $75/mo. So the ROI for having fast internet is quite a bit better than the ROI of college. I get far more bang for my buck. I can listen to 15 lectures from Brandon Sanderson and have a fully functional writers education without ever stepping in a college lecture hall.

Nigger, the future "artist" youths living through all this "planned" societal collapse and civilizational decay shit at the hands of kikes and behind the scenes string pullers trying to consolidate all wealth to become technocrat god-kings, are right now experiencing the birth pangs of a new life that'll see each little zoomer and alpha being their respective Hitler that will cause a real holocaust this time.

I went to college before we even had good pirate libraries. It was a waste of time because most students didn't know, myself included, that Boomers didn't just do janky shit like outsourcing to increase profits. They did it at the behest of bankers to destroy their own children and the country they grew up in. It hits a bit different when you realize you've taken a mortgage to destroy your own nation. The experience itself was a pack of lies by omission.

IMO the actual hype train is Quantum computing. If quantum computing has a breakthrough, it will be seriously game changing for everyone and everything. But i suspect is a pipe dream in our lifetime.

AI? I'm sorry to say you're wrong. AI is already taking fresh grad jobs. I'm personally using a number of AI agents where I would have had some off sider do them in the past.
It's the thin edge fo the wedge. If you don't believe me, go google AI AGENTS for X now. and insert whatever job/profession/field you like for X. and remember, this is steam engine days. I know a guy who literally has a room full of monitors where he used to employ a small number of fresh grads.

I feel bad for anyone 20 or under. Entry level jobs will be non-existent soon. In any knowledge based job.
Then how are those people supposed to get the jobs that require 'experience' that AI can't be trusted to do? lol. they won't. they're fucked. absolutely well and truly fucked.
The only consolation is that AI will subsequently take the experienced peoples jobs too. so we can all be fucked together.

I used grok to analyze my syllabus and study guides and generate practice exams and it improved my grade by like 20 points. You do have to take with a grain of salt some of the answers it gives you and always refer back to the text or notes you have taken on subjects.
I have also used it to generate study guides and things to help for finals and just run in the mill exams.
The point is to not use it as an end all to what you are doing. The point is to integrate it into your daily studying and school work. Using it more as an aid more so than anything else.
I also use it in my personal life mainly as a search engine or if I want help with my writing or to see if I am on the right track with a piece.

youre basically consulting the machine that is going to be actually doing the job you want to do.
you just evidenced it with your actions.
now, you're going to go to an employer and say "please give me real estate in your office (requiring additional commercial rental space), pay me enough to feed myself and put a roof over my head, as well as pay all the administrative business costs and taxes that go along with employing people, to do a job that i can't do as well as the machine I learned from. Which, by the way, you also have access to, and can do so for free. That machine, which knows my job infinitely better than I do, does not take up real estate, does not require money to feed itself or keep a roof over its head, and doesn't have administrative costs like HR.

But please hire me anyway... even though it makes - business sense. I'm sure you like losing money because all your competitors are using the machine, while you're hiring real life people. and they're getting A++ grade outputs from their machine while you're, at best, going to be getting, by comparison, C grade outputs from me for the first two to three years, probably up to five".

Yep..... you're fucked matey.

It's not the filtering or skill that concerns me. It's the value of academics when they essentially ask you to regurgitate information, which is what an LLM is good for. The general idea of an academy revolves around Plato's idea of all knowledge being 'recollection' well there's a tool 'recollects' data far better than humans can. This is like saying there's a chess club that only takes 2200 players, it's really great they're good at their game, but none of them can beat Stockfish. Those research monkeys are the only thing an LLM can't replace in education because it's reliant on data and the majority of its data comes from experimentation. At some point trades will be more valuable because a machine physically can't ply its trade it can only recite and compile theory. Degrees like law, medicine, CS, and engineering are mostly just relying on rote memory they don't teach anything experimental that's the domain of research. You don't even need to be particularly talented to excel in research, but you do need to know how to apply theory rather than recite it. This is why private unis excel, because they can adapt their system without going through 20 layers of bureaucracy.
