>Why New York isn't the capital of the United States?
They wanted to make a dedicated capital from scratch in a Roman-like style. Also, NYC was always British clay during the Revolutionary War.

The founders wanted an independent capital not directly associated with any individual state. Also if it weren't Washington our capital would have been Philadelphia.

Because George Washington didn't want one state to have the capital, so a separate place called the District of Columbia (D.C.) was marked as federal land and turned into the capital of the United States. That's why D.C. isn't a state. It's controlled directly by the federal government.

The kensington area not at all
The rest of it is like every other major city in america so no not really
At the time of the revolution though it was the intellectual de facto capitol of the colonies though. New York was just a big port city but all the important industries (and the congress itself) were in Philly

It was the capital for a short time.

But it had better usage as industrial banking and shipping hub.

The founders believed the capital should be up at the head of a navigable river for military security.
This applies to both Albany and Philadelphia but not NYC.

The first capital of modern Greece was Nafplio.

I've been to Nafplio multiple times.

Its a small beautiful city. Many buildings are from the 18th and 19th century. The first Greek parliament is still there standing. Many Freemasons live there.

Lmao, no, I mean, besides the Greeks themselves, who learns modern Greeks? It only has 13 million speakers worldwide, it's not a language who everyone learns at first, so that linguistic isolation can help to make it less attractive to immigration.

>Why New York isn't the capital of the United States?
We tried it once an the founding fathers didn't like it.
List of temporary Capitals in Colonial times in Chronological Order.
1. Albany, NY
>On June 18, 1754, twenty representatives of Northern Atlantic Colonies met in Stadt Huys, the Dutch phrase for โ€œcity hall,โ€ in Albany, New York. Delegates amongst varying North American British colonies discussed defense tactics during the French and Indian War; however, the conference veered away from purely military strategy to the โ€œAlbany Plan of Union.โ€ This plan combined the colonies โ€œunder one government as far as might be necessary for defense and other general important purposes.โ€
2. New York, NY
>North American autonomy was not discussed again until the Stamp Act Congress met from October 7 โ€“ 25, 1765, in New York, New York. This Congress was established in response to the Stamp Act that taxed all paper goods. In this Congress, delegates announced that Great Britain had no right to tax the American colonies without American representation. The monarchy repealed the Stamp Act, but immediately passed the Declaratory Act that stated that Parliament could create any law and bind the colonies to it without American representation.
3. Philadelphia, PA
>First Continental Congress 1774-1781
Philadelphia, PA continues until 1800 while Washington D.C. is being constructed.
4. Washington D.C.
