The geo-strategic goals of Germany did not change at all between the 1st and 2nd world wars, in fact Germany was more successful in the First World War because they actually achieved their goals in the East (and then were forced to give it up)
I think war would have happened with or without Hitler, too much of the German command desired it and even during the Weimar they were training and preparing for War. I think honestly a republican or mildly dictatorial Germany could have successfully waged a war in the East and even gotten help from the Western Allies as they were ALL afraid of the Soviet Union and hated them.
The fact that the west allied with the Soviets rather than the other way round just shows how Masterful of a politician Stalin was.
