There are supposedly 771,480 homeless people in the US as of January 2024. So the number is more like 231 Billion required.
Interesting thing about that though, My country is in a housing affordability crisis combined with our moronic government's immigration policies; homelessness is becoming a massive problem here as well. Our government pledged $1.5 Billion dollars to build new homes, the average cost of a build here being just over $500k, meaning ~3,000 new homes.
How that was meant to handle the roughly 450,000 new people they let in that year is beyond me. But the kicker? Not a single home was built. All $1.5 Billion dollars went to paying the salaries of public servants in charge of the program.
