Before every ice age, there is a global warming event that takes place for 100 or so years, I don't know the exact science behind it, but there is plenty of information online for you to see the global temperature of the earth looks like a giant heartbeat if you scale time into the 10's of thousands of years or great. Earth warms up, ice melts, more land is covered with water, land retains less heat because there is less land reflecting said heat into the atmosphere, wind patterns change due to different areas no longer expelling heat, causing certain area to become colder, until a spiral of cold takes over with the earth dropping in temperature by large amounts. Eventually this happens in reverse as well. Another fun fact is that during these "Ice Ages", it's not as if the entire world is covered in snow and ice, it's just that once hospitable areas now become cold and hostile to life, while other areas happen to never even see a snowflake during the time, as temps stay around 40-70f. Movies often show this as GLOBAL ICE DEATH, as do childrens history books, as it's easier to comprehend EARTH GOES ICE than it is to imagine different areas reducing temperatures while others remain untouched.

Overall, it's so you'll be more easily convinced to purchase GE's $24 eco friendly lightbulbs because it's your fault polar bears are dying.
