The country of "Israel," according to my Uncle, is a misnomer. He told me today how after Solomon's death, the kingdom of Israel was split into two, Israel in the north and Judah in the south. The people from the north kind of vanished eventually, but the people from Judah, or Judeans, eventually became what we now know as Jews. So fast forward to the late 1940s, when the modern secular state of "Israel" is founded, by the descendants of the Judeans. Why didn't they call it Judah instead?
