Because nuclear fission is a very simple process that requires a lot of concentrated uranium 235 isotope to start the chain reaction. The bomb itself is just a shell with a compartment of 2 masses of uranium 235 colliding to start the explosion. The science is very simple but it costs a lot to start producing pure uranium. They are not fake and we might see real one soon.
