If you personally find it more interesting it'll be easier. Esperanto is technically simple to learn but I realized I don't want to speak with Esperanto speakers and I don't find Esperanto history and culture interesting so I stopped pursuing that exercise and now Esperanto is, for me, more difficult than Mandarin, which I find more interesting and worthwhile.

Are you far enough along in Japanese that you're leaning the kanji (Chinese characters) or have you been sticking to the kana?
